Garswood Old Road, St Helens, Merseyside – November 2021

This page of my online photobook is just a selection of my favourite images that I photographed on a walk along Garswood Old Road towards Carr Mill, St Helens.

Garswood is a village in Merseyside, notionally within St Helens County Borough but adjacent to Wigan in Greater Manchester. The village centre and station are less than a mile from where I took the photos on this page.

On the outskirts of the town, close to the district of Pewfall, there is a single-lane road that leads to a couple of farms. Beyond, but continuing the line of the road, there is an unpaved track that leads to Carr Mill, St Helens.

The photographs above and below depict the farmland through which the road passes.

When you near the farm shown above, the road changes direction, crossing a railway bridge as it heads towards Billinge.

I couldn’t resist photographing these three sheep

Throughout this photobook, a couple of themes keep recurring – lone trees and bridges.

I took the image above as I walked back to my car. It shows the length of the walk I took – as far as the houses in the distance.

My name is Gerald Murphy. I am a retired local government officer. At the time of my retirement I was an IT manager and had associated responsibilities for training. I had previously been involved, in various organisations, with aspects of industrial training and management development. My main hobby is photography and, until 2016, hillwalking in Snowdonia. Sciatica has put an end to mountain walks and, as a carer for my wife, opportunities for photography excursions are now more limited. Since July 2022, I have started using this site as a photobook.
