Edinburgh 2 – Queensferry (evening)

The Forth Bridge at sunset from the South Queensferry side (above). A train has just begun its journey to North Queensferry.

I took the photograph above from the platform of the South Queensferry train station as I waited for a train to carry me across to North Queensferry.

I had a quick walk about the area near the base of the Forth bridge from close to where it joins the North Queensferry side of the river.

From there I headed for the road bridge (shown above) for a walk across, from North to South Queensferry to see the river and its scenery from different viewpoints as I walked.

There was only one pedestrian path on the bridge, and this restricted my views to photographing the Forth Rail bridge side only. The image above is of some of the houses in North Queensferry.

As I walked further across, I had a good view of South Queensferry and of the base of the bridge where it reached the town.

When I reached the South Queensferry side again, after a considerable walk down to the town from the bridge, I headed for the small harbour for the photo above.

The image above is of the rail bridge and wharf from South Queensferry.

While I was at the South Queensferry harbour, I found a way onto the small beach and a nice viewpoint for the setting Sun.

I walked back past my hotel and beneath the rail bridge to a place near where I’d taken a couple of photographs when I first arrived that morning.

Before I returned to my hotel room for the night, I walked back to the wharf from which my morning boat trip vessel had departed – and took my final shot of the day looking across to the two road bridges.

My name is Gerald Murphy. I am a retired local government officer. At the time of my retirement I was an IT manager and had associated responsibilities for training. I had previously been involved, in various organisations, with aspects of industrial training and management development. My main hobby is photography and, until 2016, hillwalking in Snowdonia. Sciatica has put an end to mountain walks and, as a carer for my wife, opportunities for photography excursions are now more limited. Since July 2022, I have started using this site as a photobook.

  1. Your photos are quite amazing! On my last trip to Edinburgh, I took a train to Queensferry and was blown away by everything I had a chance to see and do there, especially being so close to the bridges 😊
