Turning left, away from the pub in Chadwick Green, where we were in yesterday’s post, at the end of the road through the village we turned right past a barn conversion with a large old millstone in the front garden and on to the footpath above.

I think that Ted has spotted something, but is not sure whether to chase it.

At Otters Swift Farm, the footpath turns into a surfaced minor road back to the main road – which we will avoid.

As we approach the entrance to Carr Mill Dam, at the far end from where we started, on our right we passed this fishing pond. The view across it is the brow leading up to Moss Bank.

We are now at the Nineteen Arches end of the Dam and, from the path across the Arches, to our left we pass a small water feature, also used for angling, that seems to be returning to nature. In this area, on both side of the Arches there is plenty of wildlife from ducks, geese and swans to tiny birds including beautiful kingfishers.

A view of a few of the birds close to the Arches that morning.

A view from the Arches across the Dam towards where we parked.

Another view from the Arches towards the footpath leading back to the car park – also showing some of the anglers’ ‘pegs’ where they sit with their rods and lines.

As you would expect, both at this point, and for my Featured Photo, I include photographs of the Arches – from this viewpoint – looking back from the narrow path alongside the Dam as we start our return to the car.

Ted pauses by one of the ‘pegs’ to look across the Dam towards the Lancashire Powerboat Racing Club cafĂ©.

At a bend in the lakeside path we could see an angler fishing. The piece of half-buried stonework is a popular place for herons to perch and to fish for their food.

Ted waits on the final section of our return path where it has been widened and tamed to allow better access for visitors.

As I mentioned earlier, for this post I felt that I had to feature a shot of the Nineteen Arches from a different viewpoint that I used on the far side of the Dam from our return path.
